Up From Darkness

Mirror
punished with light
is seducer
break enter
make the perilous
descent to the crater
of the volcano

no stars moon
candle flashlight
for easy or too quick
deliverance

in eye ears
crevices caves
to feed on
darkness
to drink
the bitter but reviving medicine
of loneliness

thus to become one with
the night and its teachers
the stone the ancient tree
and the snake

what is known then is
that the bottom of the dark
is reached
and there is nowhere deeper
to go or more possible than up

with the raising sun
wings flying above
the snake and the crater
before the bursting of the
volcanic rose

eyes the darkness
has opened are healed
they are strong
they are ready
to drink the light
